From the docks of Albert Dock to the curves of Queens Drive, Liverpool drivers know how to make an impression, and that includes their choice of car colour. But are Scousers playing it cool with grey, turning heads with red, or keeping things classic in black?

We crunched the numbers using Carmoola customer data in Liverpool, all from real car purchases at Liverpool dealerships across the city. Here's the top 10 car colours drivers picked when financing their wheels:

  1. Black (25.63%)
  2. Grey (20.58%)
  3. White (17.69%)
  4. Blue (15.52%)
  5. Silver (9.21%)
  6. Red (8.66%)
  7. Orange (1.08%)
  8. Beige (0.72%)
  9. Gold (0.54%)
  10. Purple (0.36%)

It’s a bold palette with a few surprises. Let’s break down the top choices.

1. Why is black the top car colour in Liverpool? (25.63%)

Black is the undisputed champion on Merseyside. Over one in four Carmoola customers on car finance in Liverpool chose this sleek, timeless shade. It's got that luxury car energy and never goes out of style, much like Liverpool’s fashion sense.

Black cars look sharp cruising down the Strand or parked outside Lark Lane brunch spots. They’re great for giving off a polished, professional vibe. Just bear in mind they’re less forgiving when it comes to scratches or sunny-day smudges.

Unsurprisingly, black is also the top choice in Birmingham and Manchester.

2. Is grey the second most popular car colour in Liverpool? (20.58%)

Yes, 20.58% of Liverpool drivers went for grey, making it a firm favourite. Practical, understated, and easy to keep clean in all weathers, grey suits a wide range of cars and drivers.

It’s a colour that blends techy vibes with grown-up cool. Whether you're navigating city traffic near Lime Street or cruising to Crosby Beach, grey is the no-fuss shade that always looks good.

3. Why do Liverpool drivers love white cars? (17.69%)

White keeps its crown as a clean, confident choice. Nearly 18% of Liverpool’s drivers opted for it, maybe because it pops on grey days and stands out in packed car parks.

It’s got a subtle sportiness and suggests a car that’s modern, fresh and maybe even a little fancy. Plus, studies link white to better visibility, making it a sensible pick for everyday commutes or late-night runs down Edge Lane.

4. Are blue cars Liverpool’s most stylish statement? (15.52%)

Blue makes a strong showing in fourth. It’s a colour with confidence, calmness and a bit of flair, whether you’re going navy, electric or somewhere in between.

Could there be a little football influence here? Possibly. But blue has always been a classic car colour, offering that just-right blend of uniqueness and practicality. It also hides dirt better than white or silver.

Many drivers choosing eye-catching shades like blue often opt for PCP finance, which allows lower monthly payments and the flexibility to upgrade every few years.

5. Is silver still key in Liverpool? (9.21%)

Silver might not scream for attention, but it’s quietly reliable. With just over 9% of drivers choosing it, silver is the shade that gets on with the job, much like many of the cars it coats.

It’s particularly good for family cars and city runarounds thanks to its visibility, low maintenance, and timeless finish. You’ll spot silver SUVs heading out towards the M62 or doing the school run in West Derby.

Many of these silver models are family-sized SUVs or saloons, often bought on HP car finance plans, where drivers pay monthly and eventually own the car outright

6. What about red cars in Liverpool? (8.66%)

Red brings the drama. Bold and full of personality, it’s a colour for drivers who don’t mind standing out, whether they're zipping through Anfield.

Sitting in sixth place, red might not be everyone’s everyday pick, but it never fails to bring excitement to the road. It’s sporty, spirited and a favourite for compact city cars.

7. Who’s driving orange cars in Liverpool? (1.08%)

Orange is for the bold. Just over 1% of Liverpool drivers went for this zesty shade. It’s ideal for small, nippy hatchbacks or standout SUVs. Orange adds a bit of fun and makes it easier to find your car after a gig at the Echo Arena.

8. Are beige cars making a comeback? (0.72%)

Beige might sound old-school, but there’s charm in its subtlety. Under 1% of cars wear it, but it’s a rare neutral that works well with retro-styled models or drivers who like something low-key.

It’s calm, clean and doesn't shout. Think of it as the corduroy of car colours. It’s not loud, but definitely confident.

9. Is gold the flashiest finish in Liverpool? (0.54%)

Gold sits near the bottom of our data but brings some serious shine. It’s a choice that says “I like to dazzle,” and while only a handful of cars wear it, you’ll remember the ones that do.

10. Purple cars in Liverpool? (0.36%)

Purple cars are rare gems. This shade is bold, unconventional and perfect for those who want something a bit different.

You might only see this on limited editions or custom wraps. But if you’ve got one, you’re definitely not blending into the background.
